The North Carolina Museum of Art
Monet
Impressionism in the 19th century was brand new and generally frowned upon. At the time, artists like Monet and Renior were breaking the rules of their time by showing brush strokes and changing up the style. Critics were harsh, almost up until the time of Monet’s death. This information from the tour guide lifted me up. I don’t have to follow the ‘rules’. I don’t have to stay within the trend of the field if I don’t want to. I can hear Monet in his french accent now: “Hata’s gonna hate!” Think outside the popular style of whatever it is you’re doing. To be great, be different, it could be the start a new era!
